SHU Tennis Drops Siena, 6-1

Latham, NY - Sacred Heart won two out of three doubles matches and took all but one singles match to defeat the Siena Saints, 6-1, on Wednesday afternoon.  The Pioneers are back to .500 on the season at 6-6. 

The Pioneers secured the doubles point, winning two out of three doubles matches. The team of Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) and Nicole Rydzewski (Maspeth, NY) dominated at top doubles, defeating Siena's Jessica Macaluso and Cassie Braz, 8-0.  SHU's team of Paige Olson (Sykesville, MD) and Alyssa Migliorini (North Haven, CT) took the other doubles match, defeating Siena's Brittany Filip and Elora Benfor, 8-3.

Kaldan and Olson were also victorious in their singles matches. At #1 singles Kaldan was able to easily dispatch Filip, 6-0, 6-3, while Olson was able to narrowly defeat Braz in a third set super tiebreaker, 4-6, 7-6 (8), 10-3.  

A couple other Freshmen were victorious for the Pioneers. Katie DeRienzo (Douglaston, NY) was victorious at number two singles, winning 6-4, 6-0 against Carly Holloway.  At number six, Migliorini won by default.

The Pioneers are back in action this coming Friday when they host conference rival Quinnipiac.
