Fairfield, CT – The Sacred Heart women's tennis team dropped back-to-back NEC matches over the weekend to Quinnipiac and Bryant. The Pioneers have now fallen to 6-8 on the season.
On Friday SHU was only able to muster one match victory in losing to Quinnipiac, 6-1. SHU's lone win came from freshman Paige Olson (Sykesville, MD) who defeated Mary Chupa, 1-6, 6-4, 10-6 at the fifth singles slot.
On Saturday, the Pioneers lost a tough one to Bryant, dropping a tight 4-3 battle with the Bulldogs. Sacred Heart was able to secure the doubles point with wins from their second and third doubles teams. The team of Katie DeRienzo (Douglaston, NY) and Lindsey Post (Danbury, CT) were victorious at two doubles, defeating the Bulldog duo of Lucy Bird and Jovana Hadzi-Tanovic, 8-5. At three dubs, the duo of Paige Olson and Alyssa Migliorini (North Haven, CT) were vicorious over Bryant's Stephanie Smyers and Devlin Ammendola, 8-4.
Post and Olson were also victorious at four and five singles. Post took down Ammendola, 6-4, 6-2 while Olson dominated Hadzi-Tanovic, 6-3, 6-1.
The Pioneers look to rebound from a tough weekend at Hartford on Monday afternoon.
