Katie DeRienzo Named NEC Tennis Player of the Week
FAIRFIELD, Conn – Sophomore Katie DeRienzo (Douglaston, NY) was named Northeast Conference Player of the Week Tuesday afternoon. DeRienzo is the second consecutive Pioneer to win the award as junior Nicole Rydzewski (Maspeth, NY) claimed the honor last week.

FAIRFIELD, Conn – The Sacred Heart women’s tennis team narrowily earned the doubles point and won four singles matches on their way to a 5-2 win over cross-town rival, Fairfield, Monday afternoon at the SHU Tennis Courts.

Women's Tennis Seeded Fourth at Upcoming NEC Championships
FAIRFIELD, Conn – The Sacred Heart women’s tennis team was slotted fourth in the Northeast Conference Championships to be held this weekend at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, New Jersey. The Pioneers will take on Saint Francis University on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 pm.

FAIRFIELD, Conn – Sophomore Katie DeRienzo (Douglaston, NY) won her third consecutive match at number one singles Saturday afternoon in a losing effort as the Pioneers fell 6-1 to the UMass Minutewomen. SHU falls to 7-11 on the season.

FAIRFIELD, Conn – The Sacred Heart women’s tennis team swept the doubles point for the second consecutive match and cruised to a 6-1 win over Hartford Thursday afternoon at the SHU Tennis Courts. The Pioneers improve to 7-10 on the season.

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Sacred Heart Women’s tennis team used the momentum from sweeping all three doubles matches to defeat the Providence Friars, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon in Rhode Island. The Pioneers improve to 6-10 on the season.

FAIRFIELD, Conn – Junior Nicole Rydzewski (Maspeth, NY) was named Northeast Conference Tennis Player of the Week Tuesday afternoon. Rydzewski becomes the second Pioneer to win the award so far this season, joining senior Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) who earned the honor two weeks ago.

Teaneck, NJ – Senior Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) earned victories in singles and doubles but it wasn’t enough as the two-time defending NEC champion, Fairleigh Dickinson Knights, defeated Sacred Heart 6-1 Saturday afternoon at the FDU Tennis Center. The Pioneers fall to 2-1 in the NEC this season and 5-7 overall.

FAIRFIELD, Conn – The Sacred Heart Pioneers rebounded from losing the doubles point to sweep all six singles matches on their way to a 6-1 win over the Robert Morris Colonials Friday afternoon at the Sacred Heart Tennis Courts. The Pioneers are now 2-0 in the NEC this season.

FAIRFIELD, Conn – The Sacred Heart women’s tennis team has been selected to finish third in the Northeast Conference, according to the Preseason Coaches Poll released Friday afternoon. The Pioneers find themselves tied with Bryant in the third slot. Two-time defending champions, Fairleigh Dickinson, sits atop the poll, while LIU Brooklyn was voted second.

NEWARK, NJ – The Sacred Heart women’s tennis team finished their Fall slate over the weekend at the NJIT Women’s Tennis Invitational in Newark. The three day event held at the Althea Gibson Tennis Center featured nine other teams.

Women's Tennis Defeats Monmouth, 6-1
Fairfield, CT - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team opened up their dual match season with a 6-1 win over the Monmouth Hawks. The Pioneers won the doubles point, 2-1, and were victorious in five of the six singles matches.

Pioneer Tennis Earns ITA Academic Honors
The Sacred Heart women's tennis team was honored for their academic success off the courts in 2012-13 by being named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I All-Academic Team. In addition, six Pioneers on the women's side and two on the men's side were selected as ITA Scholar-Athletes for posting a grade point average of 3.50 or higher this past season.
