WEST POINT, NY – The Sacred Heart women's tennis team won the doubles point Saturday night but lost five of six singles matches en route to a 5-2 loss to the Binghamton Bearcats at Lichtenberg Tennis Center on the campus of Army.
The Pioneers won two of three matches to secure the doubles point for the first time this season. The team of Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) and Katie DeRienzo (Douglaston, NY) defeated Katya Medianik and Alexis Tashiro, 6-4, while the team of Nicole Rydzewski (Maspeth, NY) and Taylor Gurda (Middletown, CT) squeaked out a 7-4 tiebreaker victory over Agatha Ambrozy and Shea Brodsky to secure the point.
After splitting sets with Sara Kohtz, Katie DeRienzo was able to win a super tiebreaker, 10-4 over Sara Kohtz, to notch the Pioneers only singles point. Kaldan and Rydzewski also split sets but were unable to win the final tiebreaker.
