FAIRFIELD, Conn – Junior Nicole Rydzewski (Maspeth, NY) was named Northeast Conference Tennis Player of the Week Tuesday afternoon. Rydzewski becomes the second Pioneer to win the award this season, joining senior Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) who earned the honor two weeks ago.
Rydzewski earned a total of five wins this week, including going a perfect 3-0 in singles action. The junior dropped just ten games in straight set wins over Manhattan, Albany and former NEC-rival Quinnipiac. Not only successful on the singles side, Rydzewski also notched a 2-1 doubles record at the number two spot. First up, Rydzewski teamed with freshman Taylor Gurda (Middletown, NY) for a 8-4 win over Manhattan, followed by a 8-2 win over Albany with partner Katie DeRienzo (Douglaston, NY). The New York product has now won four consecutive singles matches and is 9-5 in dual matches this season.
Rydzewski and the rest of the Pioneers will be in action next on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to take on the Providence Friars.
