Bobby Valentine, Executive Director of Athletics at Sacred Heart University, announced on Tuesday that Mike Guastelle will transition to a full-time administrative role in the 2017-18 academic year. Guastelle relinquishes his role as head men’s and women’s tennis coach, and a nationwide search is currently underway to fill that position.

Bronx, NY. – Women's tennis fell to Fordham on Sunday. Maggie Glynn had a thrilling win in the 5th singles flight. After losing the opening set,, 6-4 to Fordham's Destiny Grunin, the freshman from Greenwich, CT fought back to win the second set 6-4 and took the super tiebreaker 11-9. Brianne Lauria and Claudia Ruiz also had a solid 6-3 win at 2 doubles against Fordham's Carolina Sa and Maia Balce.

Providence ended up winning the team competition with 46 points, while UCONN came in second place with 35 points.

The Sacred Heart women's tennis team posted a 6-1 win over Northeast Conference foe Monmouth on Tuesday, in what will be the Pioneers only dual match action this fall. SHU posted three 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles play and swept the doubles action en route to the NEC win.

SHU Tennis Assistant Jim Biggs Named to USTA New England Hall of Fame
Sacred Heart assistant tennis coach Jim Biggs has been selected for induction into the United States Tennis Association New England Hall of Fame. A resident of the Southport section of Fairfield, Biggs has worked with the SHU tennis program for the last 13 years and helped lead the Pioneer men to a pair of Northeast Conference titles in 2009 and 2011.

The Sacred Heart women's tennis team won the doubles point and won the first sets in five of the six singles matches but couldn't hold off the top-seeded Quinnipiac Bobcats as the Pioneers fell short of a Northeast Conference Championship appearance with a 5-1 loss.

Sacred Heart Beats the Mount at NEC Championship
The Sacred Heart women's tennis team posted a 4-0 win over Mount St. Mary's in the quarterfinal round of the Northeast Conference Champsionship Friday afternoon at the Mercer County Tennis Center. The #4 seeded Pioneers bounced back from four-straight losses heading into the tournament to sweep the #5 seeded Mount and move into the semifinal round on Saturday.

Sacred Heart senior Kirill Kasyanov (Yonkers, NY) and freshman Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) took home Northeast Conference Tennis Player of the Week honors announced by the league on Tuesday. Kasyanov earns his second NEC Player of the Week award this year while Kaldan was named the NEC Rookie of the Week for the first time this season.

The Sacred Heart women's tennis team won their third and fourth consecutive dual matches to open up their annual Spring Break trip in Orlando, Florida. The Pioneers posted consecutive 6-1 wins over South Dakota State and Mount St. Mary's to improve to 7-1 on the year. SHU is now 3-0 against Northeast Conference play this season with wins over the Mount, Monmouth and Bryant.
