FAIRFIELD, Conn. (March 20, 2010) - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team swept all three doubles matches but came up short in singles play falling to the University at Albany, 4-3, Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers fall to 6-7 and will make the trip across town tomorrow afternoon to face the Fairfield Stags.

Junior Elizabeth Harrington (Westerly, RI) and sophomore Kristina Chao (Needham, MA) picked up SHU's singles wins and teamed up for a doubles win in the #2 spot. Harrington and Chao beat Caitlin Crowley and Aubrey Brooks, 8-2. Harrington earned a three-set victory over Crowley at #3 singles, 7-5, 6-1 after dropping the first set, 7-6. Chao got a win at #4 when Brooks retired in the third set down 3-0. Brooks took the first set 6-3 and Chao won the second 6-4.

Senior Julianne Kasinow (Wall, NJ) and junior Darcy Demers (Norton, MA) combined for an 8-2 win over Livia Gherman and Laine Mackey at #1 while sophomores Kate Donnelly (Centerville, MA) and Delaney Downing (Englewood, CO) beat Melissa Coughlin and Sarah Iannone 8-5 at #3.

Donnelly and Downing lost hard fought three set decisions in singles action. Donnelly fell at #1 to Gherman, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 and Downing lost at #6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 to Coughling.
