(Fairfield, CT) – Kimberly DeLoreto (Hillsdale, NJ) and Brittney Lane (Greenwich, NY) of the Sacred Heart Pioneer women's track and field team were both honored in the NEC weekly awards for their performances at the Carleton Crowell Invitational this past weekend, hosted by Army at West Point, New York.
DeLoreto won the NEC Women's Track Player of the Week award, becoming the first distance runner in the conference to do so. The senior won the 5,000-meter event, besting her next nearest competitor almost one minute and 50 seconds with a winning time of 17:30.12. The time ranks as the fastest time in the NEC this season, as well as the third fastest time in all of NCAA Division I this year (when converted from flat-track to banked).
Lane ran a 10:32.25 in the 3,000-meter event en route to earning the silver medal. Her performance was also the fastest time of any NEC freshman all season in the event, and also places her second on the NEC leader board behind DeLoreto's performance at the Harvard Open on Dec. 11, 2010.
