(New Haven, CT) – The Sacred Heart Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field teams competed in the New England Outdoor Championships at Southern Connecticut State University last weekend, with the Women's team placing seventh out of 32 teams and the Men's team taking 12th out of 35.
Bonnie Kilis set the school record in placing first in the Women Heptathlon with a score of 5149. She placed first in Women Javelin Throw (39.26m), Women 100 Meter Run (14.98), Women Shot Put (11.02m), Women 200 Meter Dash (26.20), and Women 800 Meter Run (2:17.82), while placing second in the Women Long Jump (5.29m) and tying for second in Women High Jump (1.64m).
Sarana Hyatt earned xxxxx points in the Women Heptathlon as well, tying for second in Women High Jump (1.64m) and placing second in Women 100 Meter Hurdles (15.10), third in Women 200 Meter Dash (27.04), fourth in Women 800 Meter (2:30.45), fifth in Women Shot Put (9.80m), seventh in the Women Long Jump Heptathlon (5.06m), eighth in Women Javelin Throw (24.71m).
Ashley Beck rounded out the three Sacred Heart point-earners in the Women Heptathlon, placing sixth in Women 100 Meter Hurdles (16.51) and Women High Jump (1.55m), ninth in Women Long Jump (4.82m) and Women Shot Put (8.18m), 10th in Women Javelin Throw (21.00m) and 200 Meter Dash (28.79), and 11th in Women 800 Meter Run (2:49.08)
Lindsay Aponte won the Women Shot Put with a toss of 13.69m to earn 10 points, while Carol Cress placed fifth in the same event with a throw of 13.20m for four points. Aponte also competed in the ECAC Outdoor Championships at Princeton University this weekend, placing seventh in the Women Shot Put with a toss of 14.28m to earn Sacred Heart two points.
Athalia Smith won the Women Hammer Throw with a toss of 56.42m, and will compete at the NCAA East Regional Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Indiana University May 27-28.
Christine Middleton earned six points in Women Discuss Throw with a third-place toss of 40.13m.
Ashley Matakevich placed second in Women Long Jump with a leap of 5.77m for eight points and sixth in Women Triple Jump for three points with a leap of 11.70m, setting school records in both events.
Katelyn Racanelli placed sixth in Women 400 Meter Dash with three points with a time of 57.77.
Brittany Llobell ran a personal best in the Women 1500 Meter Run with a time of 4:42.13.
For the Men's team, Jeremy Rosado won the Men 110 Meter Hurdles with a time of 14.26, earning 10 points.
Dan Galanto brought in eight points in the decathlon, taking second place with 6423 points, while Scott Polis earned the team a point with 5571 points in the decathlon. Galanto finished first in Men Discuss Throw (36.76m), second in Men 1500 Meter Run (4:31.87), seventh in Men 110 Meter Hurdles (16.72), and eighth in Men Javelin Throw (37.65m). Polis finished fifth in Men 110 Meter Hurdles (16.61), seventh in Men Javelin Throw (37.68m), and ninth in Men 1500 Meter Run (5:35.42). Galanto and Polis tied for second in Men Pole Vault (4.50m).
Jeffrey Lusignan earned two points in the Men 1500 Meter Run with a seventh place finish time of 3:52.21. This broke the school record he set last week at the NEC Championships.
Brandon Hutchinson gained the team a point with an eighth place finish in the Men Triple Jump with a leap of 14.02m.
All athletes who earned a point earned All-New England honors.
