Women's Track and Field Place Third at NEC Outdoor Championship

(Emmitsburg, MD) – The Sacred Heart Women's Outdoor Track and Field team finished third in the Northeast Conference Championship this weekend at Mount St. Mary's.

Athalia Smith took gold in the Women Hammer Throw, qualifying for the ECAC with a toss of 57.33m.  Christine Middleton also qualified for the ECAC with a third place finish of 51.70m.  Chauntal Smith finished sixth with a throw of 49.55m.

In the Women 440 Meter Dash, Katelyn Racanelli finished fourth (57.20).

Brittany Llobell and Catherine Westby finished sixth and seventh respectively with times of 2:16.32 and 2:16.60 in the Women 800 Meter Run.

Brittany Heninger came in third in the Women 1500 Meter Run with a time of 4:39.04 , while Emma Buldoc finished seventh with a time of 4:46.91.

Brittany Lane and Alyssa Selmquist earned third and fourth place with respective finishes of 17:16.74 and 17:34.42 in the Women 5000 Meter Run, while Buldoc took sixth with a time of 17:57.26.

Selmquist and Lane also finished with ECAC qualifying times of 37:25.72 and 37:34.42 with respective finishes of second and third in the Women 1000 Meter Run, followed by Elizabeth Hutchins and her fifth place finish in 39:03.50.

In the Women 3000 Meter Steeplechase, Michelle Navarro and Brianna Castrogivanni took third and fourth with respective times of 11:10.72 and 11:11.30.

In the Women 4x100 Meter Relay, the team of Nicolette Sands, Karlie Dean, Ashley Matakevich, and Asia Wright came in third with a finish of 48.17.  The team of Sands, Dean, Shay Cronin, and Rancalli finished fifth in the 4x400 Meter Relay with a time of 3:56.13.

Emily Kiss finished sixth with a leap of 2.75m in the Women Pole Vault.

Matakevich came in fourth in the Women Long Jump with a bound of 5.72m and also took third in the Women Triple Jump with an 11.71m finish.

In Women Shot Put, Lindsay Aponte took second with a toss of 14.35m, followed by Kolbi Smith on fourth place with a throw of 13.66m, both good enough to qualify for the ECAC.  Christine Middleton came in fifth with a throw of 13.11m, followed by Athalia Smith a toss of 13.03m.  Middleton also finished third in the Women Discuss Throw with a distance of 43.43m to also qualify for the ECAC.  Aponte came in sixth with a throw of 40.56m.
