Senior Alyssa Selmquist Named NEC Track Athlete of the Week

FAIRFIELD, CT (December 12, 2012) - Sacred Heart senior Alyssa Selmquist (Northford, CT) was named the Northeast Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week announced by the league on Tuesday.  It is the first track honor this season for Selmquist.

Selmquist's success from the cross country season has carried over into the indoor track & field arena.  Sacred Heart's senior captain was the top collegiate finisher in the 3,000-meter run at the Harvard University Open.  Selmquist completed the race in a personal-best 9:57.53 and instantly became the NEC event leader as a result.  In addition to leading the rest of the Northeast Conference by a healthy margin, Selmquist's 3K time makes her an automatic qualifier for the ECAC Championships.  Selmquist, who was the runner-up at the 2012 NEC Women's XC Championship this past October, sits 13th amongst all NCAA Division I leaders thanks to her indoor 3K mark.
