FAIRFIELD, CT (April 10, 2013) - Sacred Heart junior Brianna Castrogivanni (Commack, NY) was named this week's Northeast Conference Track & Field Athlete of the Week announced by the league on Tuesday.
The NEC Track Athlete of the Week award moves from one Pioneer's hands to those of another. After Alyssa Selmquist took last week's honor by virtue of her NEC-leading 10K time, fellow SHU distance runner Brianna Castrogivanni steps into the spotlight. Coming off an indoor season that saw her win a share of the NEC Indoor MVP award, Castrogivanni has taken her sophomore surge outdoors. She has run two races thus far this outdoor season, and has produced a NEC list-leading performance on both occasions. Having already run the second-fastest 3000m steeplechase time in NEC annals at Stanford (Mar. 29), Castrogivanni ventured to Princeton for the Sam Howell Memorial Invitational and produced the third-fastest 5K mark in the NEC's history of outdoor track. Her 16:44.05 time set SHU's program record and earned her fifth place at Princeton.
