FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart track and field team earned two weekly honors from the Northeast Conference on Tuesday. Sophomore Sean Ferguson was named the Men's Track Athlete of the Week after winning the mile race at the Yale Collegiate Invitational. Freshman Nicole Bartosch was named Women's Rookie of the Week after placing fourth in the long jump at Yale.
Ferguson ran a personal-best time of 4:17.85 on Saturday at Yale, winning the race by more than seven seconds. In his three races this season, Ferguson has ran a personal best and a top NEC performance. The sophomore has the top times in the NEC in the mile, the 3000 meters, and the 5000 meters. Bartosch recorded a personal best jump of 18' 3.75" in the long jump on Saturday, finishing in fourth out of 40 competitors. She took over the top spot in the NEC in the event to go along with her top spot on the NEC pentathlon chart that she recorded at Manhattan. In addition to her top NEC rankings in the long jump and pentathlon, Bartosch is third in the high jump, seventh in the 200m, ninth in the 60m hurdles, and 10th in the 800m.
The Sacred Heart track and field teams are back in action on Thursday, Jan. 16 with a quadrangular meet at Boston University.
