FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart women's track and field team swept the Northeast Conference weekly awards on Tuesday. Elizabeth Hutchins (Pawcatuck, Conn.) was named the Track Athlete of the Week with Kolbi Smith (Valatie, N.Y.) earning Field Athlete of the Week honors. Freshman Nicole Bartosch (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) was named Rookie of the Week.
Hutchins ran a 35:32.43 in the 10,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational last Friday, taking over the NEC lead in the event by more than four minutes. Her time is the second-fastest in program history and put her 29th on the NCAA East Region performance list and is among the 60 fastest times this season. Smith finished third in the shot put at the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton last Saturday with a throw of 49'1.75". She leads the NEC in the event and is 24th in the East region. It was a personal –best throw and the second-farthest outdoor throw in program history. Bartosch finished fourth in the heptathlon at the Sam Adams Combined Events Invitational in Santa Barbara, Calif. Her 4,440 points are the highest for a Pioneer freshman and the fourth-highest in program history. She won the 200 meters, 800 meters, and the long jump, setting personal bests in the 200 and 800.
The Pioneers are back on the track Saturday at the Rider University Invitational.
