FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart women's track and field seniors Brianna Castrogivanni (Commack, N.Y.) and Kolbi Smith (Valatie, N.Y.) were named the Northeast Conference Women's Track Athlete and Field Athlete of the Week, respectively, on Tuesday for their performances this past weekend.
Castrogivanni was named the Track Athlete of the Week after clocking the NEC's top 3000 meter steeplechase time of the season at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton. Her time of 10:40.18 was more than 10 seconds faster than the ECAC Championship qualifying standard and is the 55th-fastest in the NCAA East Region. She was less than five seconds away from her personal best of 10:35.47, which stands as the NEC Outdoor Championships meet record.
Smith earned Field Athlete of the Week honors after winning the shot put at Yale's Mark Young Invitational. Her throw of 14.88 meters (48'11") eclipsed the ECAC Championship qualifying standard by over one meter. She leads the NEC in the shot put, as her throw on Saturday is 1.42 meters better than the second-best thrower in the conference.
The Pioneers will compete in the Penn Relays April 24-26 and the Yale Springtime Invitational on April 27.
