WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Sacred Heart men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition at the New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Westfield State University.
The women's team won two events on Saturday. Senior Kolbi Smith won the shot put by over three feet with a throw of 49'3". Brianna Castrogivanni won the 3000 meter steeplechase in a time of 10:27.86. Those two athletes won their respective events at the Northeast Championships last weekend. Freshman Nicole Bartosch finished the heptathlon in third place with 4,617 points. Bartosch was second in the long jump and the 800 meters on Saturday. Katelyn Racanelli wrapped up the scoring for the women's team with a sixth-place showing in the 400 meters, running a time of 56.16 seconds.
The men's team got 11 points on Saturday from Marc Troiani. The graduate thrower took third place in the discus with a throw of 164'1", then finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 52'8.75". Gregory Hazell also had a third-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 47'11.25".
The women's team finished in fifth place overall with 50 points, seven points behind Boston College. The men's team compiled 26 points in the meet, putting it in 12th place.
Sacred Heart begins competition at the 2014 ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Championships, hosted by Princeton, on Friday, May 16.
