Mareena DiMilia qualifies for the NCAA East Region Preliminary Championships
Fairfield, CT –  Mareena DiMilia of Sacred Heart University track and field team has qualified for the NCAA East Region Track and Field Preliminary Championships, to be held May 25-27 at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
DiMilia set a new personal record in the javelin throw, with an ECAC throw of 44.89 meters (147'3") that breaks her own school record of 44.53 meters (146'1") set last outdoor season. DiMilia currently ranks 41st in the Division 1 East Region. The top 48 get a bid to the NCAA East Regional Championships held in Lexington, Kentucky in two weeks.
DiMilia also finished finished secong in the javelin throw to pick up 8 points, and finished 6th in the hammer throw for 3 more points. Her best mark of the day in the hammer measured in at 52.09 meters (170'9"), which is also an ECAC qualifying performance.
The top-48 performances from the season in each event – after scratches, injuries, etc. – earned entry to the NCAA East Region Preliminaries.
 
The top-12 finishers from each event at regionals will advance to the NCAA Championships, to be held June 7-10 at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
