Svensen & DiCicco With Win's At Yale Season opener

New Haven.- The Sacred Heart track and field team were in action at the 2017 Yale Season Opener on Sunday at Coxe Cage.
Akuadasuo Ezenyilimba continues to declare her position in the weight throw, with a new season best mark of 58'1.75" ft (17.72m). The mark meets not just the New England standard, but the ECAC standard as well. Ezenyilimba hold her 1st place ranking in the NEC, which she now lead by nearly seven feet.
Kate Svensen won the 3000 meters in a new personal best of 10:06.43. Right behind her was teammate Lindsey Lucas in 10:09.26, also a personal best. The senior duo both shattered the New England standard of 10:21.0 and now rank 1st and 2nd in the NEC.
Jody DiCicco won the 5000 meters, in a time that also meets the New England standard. Crossing the line in 18:15.20, the sophomore won the race by nearly thirty seconds.
Adrianna Forcucci set a new season best time in the 60m dash trials of 7.93 seconds. In the finals, the sophomore ran 7.94 seconds, good for 8th place overall in the meet. The time is 6th in the NEC.
Selina Sampieri vaulted a season best of 11'5.75" ft (3.50m) to take 2nd in the event. Sampieri ranks 5th in the NEC and the mark meets the New England standard.
Rookie Antonia Hoyos jumped 17'2" ft (5.23m) in the long jump to move herself to 4th in NEC rankings and take 7th in the event.
Another freshman to make a statement was Kathryn Matrisciano, who took 2nd in the shot put with a mark of 41'6.5" ft (12.66m). The mark meets the New England standard and moves her to 4th in NEC rankings.
The Pioneers are back in action Friday Jan. 5 at the Wagner Seahawks Invitational @ Ocean Breeze T&F Center, Staten Island, NY at 1 pm.
