Sacred Heart University runners Kate Svensen (Medway, Mass.) and Trevor Guerrera (Farmingville,N.Y.)have both been selected to compete at the 2018 NCAA East Regional. The two seniors will represent the Pioneers at the event, hosted at USF Track and Field Stadium in Tampa, Fla., May 24-26. Svensen will compete in the women's 10,000m, while Guerrera will compete in the men's 800m.
Svensen will run in the 10,000m, which is scheduled to begin at 9:40 Thursday, May 24. Svensen is the 40th seed with her time of 35:00.84, the NEC Championship record that won her gold in the event at the 2018 NEC Outdoor Track and Field Championship. The field is comprised of 48 student-athletes.
Guerrera's 800m preliminary heats are scheduled to begin Thursday at 8:10 pm. His seed time of 1:49.48 is the 35th fastest in the 48-competitor field.
Svensen and Guerrera are two of the most decorated runners in program history. The duo both earned the department's Athletics Director Award at he 26th Annual Senior Awards Brunch, for athletic excellence.
