Women's Volleyball Opens Northeast Conference Action at Home Saturday Afternoon

NEC Opener... The Pioneers kick-off Northeast Conference play Saturday afternoon as they welcome the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights to the Pitt Center.  Sacred Heart enters the match winning 10 of its last 11, including five straight.  The Knights open league play in third place in the overall standings but is currently 0-5 in road games.  SHU was picked 2nd in the NEC preseason poll and currently sits atop the league standings as conference play officially starts.

Sage and Mercado Earn Weekly Awards...  For the second time this season Elise Sage and Dianis Mercado swept the Molten/NEC weekly awards.  Sage smashed 39 kills overall in three games and set a NEC match high mark for 2010 with a .625 hitting percentage to earn player of the week honors.  Mercado grabbed rookie of the week accolades as she averaged a double-double over three matches and led the Pioneers with 15 kills and 17 digs in a 3-1 win over Dartmouth.

Last Time Out...  Sacred Heart comes off of a 3-0 road sweep over Hartford Thursday night.  Sage and Ashlyn Trimble both swung at a .550 clip to lead the Pioneers to a decisive victory over the instate rival Hawks. 

Scouting the Knights... Meaghan Wheeler leads the attack for Fairleigh Dickinson, averaging 2.80 kills per game.  Kelsey Semler is the anchor on the defensive side with 4.63 digs per game, ranking third in the NEC.  FDU is currently the top serving team in the league, tallying just over two service aces per set.
