Heading In... The Pioneers welcome conference rival Quinnipiac to the Pitt Center for a Wednesday night showdown. Sacred Heart enters the match having won 11 of its last 12, including six straight. The Bobcats are 0-1 in league play after opening the NEC schedule with a tight 3-2 loss at Bryant. After the first weekend of conference action only the Pioneers and Robert Morris remain undefeated.
Mercado Takes Third Rookie of the Week Award... Dianis Mercado earned her second consecutive, and third overall, rookie of the week nod after the Pioneers posted a 2-0 record last week. Mercado notched double-doubles in Sacred Heart victories over Hartford and league rival Fairleigh Dickinson. The outside hitter recorded 14 kills and 13 digs in Sacred Heart's sweep of Hartford and 17 kills to go with 13 digs in a 3-1 decision over the Knights. Mercado averaged a weekend hitting clip of .367 and chipped in three service aces.
Last Time Out... Sacred Heart comes off of a 3-1 victory at home over Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday. Maile Hetherington came off the bench for 10 kills for SHU. The Pioneers are unbeated at home in 2010 with a record of 4-0 inside the Pitt Center.
Scouting the Bobcats... Amanda Armstrong leads the Quinnipiac attack with 2.18 kills per game and a .217 hitting percentage. Logan Riker anchors the defense averaging 4.40 digs per set. The Bobcats are the second best team in the NEC in opponents hitting percentage and rank third in assists per game.
