The 2010 Northeast Conference Champion Sacred Heart women's volleyball team will head to Nebraska to face the overall #2 seeded Cornhuskers in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The match-ups and bracket were officially announced by the NCAA on Sunday sending the Pioneers to the host Cornhuskers on Thursday, December 2nd.
"We are really excited to be going to the NCAA Tournament," said senior Courtney Kidd-Kadlubek. "It's a great opportuity and we can't wait to play on Thursday. It was a great season, we worked really hard and I think it showed in the NEC (Northeast Conference) Tournament last weekend."
"We want to compete, go out and leave it on the floor," stated Kidd-Kadlubek.
The Pioneers had a magical run to the NEC title in 2010, running off a school record 29-6 mark and knocking off Robert Morris in three-straight one week ago to claim the program's first ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.
"This is good for the program to be able to play a team like that (Nebraska) and compete hard like we have all year," commented junior Jessica Colberg. "It's exciting to start something here and have people come out and watch and support us.
"We are going to play a much differnet level of competition," stated Colberg. "We have to go in and do what we do best. Like coach says, we will be successful if we try to be competitive like we have all year."
Nebraska posted a 27-2 record this season and laid claim to their 12th Big-12 Championship, beating Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon in three-straight. The Cornhuskers have won 31 conference championships and 12 in the Big 12 era as they get ready to move to the Big 10 next year.
The winner of the Nebraska - Sacred Heart match-up will face the winner of Auburn (20-12) and Missouri State (21-9).
