Women's Volleyball Inks Alissa Young to National Letter of Intent For 2011

Head coach Rob Machan recently announced that Alissa Young (La Verne, CA) has signed a national letter of intent and will join the SHU volleyball team in the fall of 2011.  Young is a two-time first-team all-league selection and earned scholar-athlete accolades four straight years at Saint Lucy's Priory high school.  In her senior season Young led her team to a 32-11 overall record captured a second straight league championship while reaching the California division II state semifinals.

"Alissa is a dynamic athlete who comes from very successful programs both in high school and club in southern California," commented SHU head coach Rob Machan.  "She is an explosive jumper with a very fast arm who can excel at multiple positions across the net."

Young recorded 301 kills and a hitting percentage of .326 in 2010 as St. Lucy's Priory finished the year ranked 24th in the state. She recorded double-digit kills 11 times with a season high 15 coming against St. Joseph (CA).  In 2009 Young hit at a .398 clip and put away nearly 55 percent of her total attempts.  Young also served as team captain as a senior and was nominated for the National Society of High School Scholars.
