Alissa Young (La Verne, CA) was effective all weekend in three Pioneer victories en route to picking up her second nod as the Molten/Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week. The freshman racked up 25 kills over the trio of matches and compiled a team best .379 hitting percentage. Young was the Pioneers most efficient attacker against both Quinnipiac and St. Francis (NY).
Young's biggest play of the weekend came in the fifth set of Sacred Heart's win over Long Island. She put the Pioneers on top for the first time in the deciding set, 8-7, blasting a kill through the LIU block. Young finished the final regular season home match of 2011 with 12 kills and five digs to round her superb week.
Young, playing on the right side of the SHU offense, ripped seven kills on 11 swings without making an error against the Terriers. She also added six kills on her eight total attacks versus the Bobcats.
The Pioneers return to action tomorrow night against Columbia before heading to western Pennsylvania for the final two Northeast Conference regular season games of the season.
