Women's Volleyball Announces Class of 2017
Fairfield, Conn.—Sacred Heart Women’s Volleyball Head Coach Rob Machan announces five players who will join the Pioneers for the 2013 season. Sarah Krufka, Jene D. Lee, Kiki Robinson, Ana Beatriz Gonzalez and Maddie Losure form the women’s volleyball Class of 2017. Coach Machan is very pleased with this class and has high expectations for his team going into the 2013 season.

Class of '12 Shine on Senior Night; SHU Sweeps Bobcats
Fairfield, Conn. (November 10, 2012)—Sacred Heart Women’s Volleyball Class of 2012 led the way as the Pioneers swept Quinnipiac on Senior Night. Elise Sage (Greenwood Village, Colo.) hit an impressive .583 kill percentage to lead the match, while Johanna Ovsenek (London, On.) led the match with 10 kills. Megan Pulone (Diamond Bar, Calif.) recorded 14 assists and Nicole Morales (Medford, N.Y.) notched 11 digs, both team highs.

Pioneers Downed by Red Flash in Three Sets
Loretto, Penn.—A pair of rookies led the Pioneer offense. Karly Shockey (Chino Hills, Calif.) and Allison Riggs (Huntington Beach, Calif.) recorded eight kills each as the Sacred Heart women’s Volleyball Team was swept by the Saint Francis (PA) Red Flash.

Pioneers Upended by Colonials in Four Sets
Moon Township, Penn.—Karly Shockey (Chino Hills, Calif.) led the match with 21 kills, but the Sacred Heart Women’s Volleyball team fell in four sets to Robert Morris. Once again, errors plagued the Pioneers as they outkilled the Colonials 59-44.

Sara Fernandez Named Co-NEC Player of the Week
Fairfield, Conn. (October 29, 2012)—Sara Fernandez (Guaynabo, PR) of the Sacred Heart Women’s Volleyball team was named co-NEC Defensive Player of the Week after recording 33 digs this past weekend as the Pioneers swept both Bryant and Fairleigh Dickinson.

Sage and Mercado Lead Pioneers to 3-0 Victory
Teaneck, N.J.—Dianis Mercado (Vega Baja, PR) led the Pioneers to a 3-0 win over the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights with 15 kills, SHU’s the second consecutive sweep. The win lifts the Sacred Heart Women’s Volleyball team over .500 (7-6) in conference play for the first time since Oct. 14.

Pioneers Best Bulldogs in Three Sets
Fairfield, Conn. (Oct. 27, 2012)—The Pioneers outkilled the Bulldogs 43-22 as they swept Bryant 3-0 Saturday night. Karly Shockey (Chino Hill, Calif.) led the match with 12 kills. The win brings the Sacred Heart Women’s Volleyball team to an even 6-6 against conference opponents and 8-18 on the season.

Sage Hit .667 to Help SHU Take Down Terriers
Fairfield, Conn.—Elise Sage (Greenwood Village, Colo.) hit .667 with 11 kills and just one error against Saint Francis (NY) Sunday afternoon as the Sacred Heart Women’s Volleyball team downed the Terriers 3-1. Alissa Young (La Verne, Calif.) led the match, recording 12 kills. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 7-18 for the season and 5-6 in conference play.

Sacred Heart Swept by Blackbirds
Fairfield, Conn. – The Sacred Heart Pioneers fell to the LIU Blackbirds in three sets Saturday night at the William H. Pitt Center. The Pioneers struggled offensively, managing just 22 total kills for the match, while committing 27 hitting errors. On the other side of the net, the LIU offense ran smoothly collecting 34 kills with only 5 hitting errors.

Sacred Heart Downed in Three Sets by CCSU
New Britain, Conn.—A pair of Sacred Heart freshmen led the match in kills as the Sacred Heart Women’s Volleyball team fell in three-straight sets to in-state rival Central Connecticut State University Thursday night in Detrick Gym. Karly Shockey (Chino Hills, Calif.) and Allison Riggs (Anaheim, Calif.) registered 10 kills each in the loss that drops the Pioneers to 6-17 on the season and 4-5 against conference opponents.

SHU Falls in Five to Saint Francis (PA)
The Sacred Heart Pioneers and Saint Francis (PA) Red Flash battled their way through five sets Sunday afternoon in the William H. Pitt Center with SFU coming away with a 15-12 win in the fifth set to take the match. Sunday's match completed the first turn through the NEC schedule with the Pioneers sitting at 4-4.

Pioneers Down Colonials in Five Sets
Fairfield, Conn.—The Pioneers came back from a two-set deficit to defeat the Robert Morris Colonials in five sets Saturday afternoon. The Sacred Heart Women’s Volleyball Team recorded a season-high 74 kills in the close match, while sophomore Alisa Mesa (Long Beach, Calif.) set a career-high with 61 assists. The win boosts SHU to 6-15 on the season and 4-3 in conference play.

Fairfield, Conn.--Despite recording 10 more kills than the Blue Devils (56-46), the Sacred Heart Women's Volleyball Team dropped the match 3-1, and fall to 2-3 in conference and 4-15 overall on the season. Fairfield, Conn.--Despite the Pioneers recording 11 more kills than the Knights, the Sacred Heart Women's Volleyball team fell to Fairleigh Dickinson in four sets. Errors plagued the Pioneers throughout the match causing them to fall to 2-2 in conference and 4-14 overall. Johanna Ovsenek (London, On.) led Sacred Heart with 18 kills.

Pioneers Battle Bulldogs in a 3-1 Victory
Fairfield, Conn.—Five Pioneers had 11 or more kills, while three hit over .409 in the 3-1 win over the Bryant Bulldogs. Alissa Young (La Verne, Calif.) led the way with 17 kills as the Sacred Heart Women’s Volleyball team cruised to their second Northeast Conference victory. With the win, the Pioneers go to 4-13 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.

Women's Volleyball Shuts Out Terriers for First NEC Win
Fairfield, Conn.—Three Pioneers had double-digit kills as the Sacred Heart Women’s Volleyball Team ended a six-game losing streak with a shut out of the St. Francis (NY) Terriers for their first conference win. Sacred Heart outkilled the Terriers 45-23 in the match. Johanna Ovsenek (London, On.) led the way with 13 kills and hit .611 in the win, which brought SHU to 3-13 on the season, and an even 1-1 against Northeast Conference opponents.

Pioneers Finish Non-Conference Schedule with Loss to UCONN
The Sacred Heart Women’s Volleyball Team closes out their non-conference schedule with a 3-0 loss to UCONN Wednesday night at home. The Pioneers switched up the rotation with Elise Sage (Greenwood Village, Colo.) out with an injury. Dianis Mercado (Vega Baja, PR) played her first match of the season outside, and Alissa Young (La Verne, Calif.) played her first match of the season at middle as SHU falls to 2-12 on the season. Despite the shut out, the Sacred Heart got better as the night went on, improving every set.

Pioneers Drop Two Matches on Final Day of Black Knight Invitational
Fairfield, Conn.—The Sacred Heart Women’s Volleyball Team was swept in the Black Knight Invitational this weekend. After dropping the set to Albany 3-0 on Friday night, the Pioneers lost both matches on Sunday in the same fashion. Senior Johanna Ovsenek (London, ON) was named to the All-Tournament team after leading the SHU hitting .270 with 18 kills on 31 attempts in the tournament. Karly Shockey’s (Chino Hills, Calif.) 22 kills over three matches topped the Pioneers.

Women's Volleyball Drops Match to Albany 3-0
Johanna Ovsenek (London, ON) and Karly Shockey (Chino Hills, Calif.) led the Pioneers with nine kills each in the loss to Albany. Ovsenek led the match hitting.467 as the Sacred Heart Women’s Volleyball Team fell 0-3 Friday evening in their first match of the Black Knight Invitational at West Point.

Women's Volleyball Falls to Fairfield in SHU Invitational Championship
(Fairfield, CT) – The Sacred Heart Pioneer Women’s Volleyball team fell 3-0 to the Fairfield Stags on Saturday afternoon in the2012 Sacred Heart Hampton Inn Shelton Invitational championship game. The Stags outscored the Pioneers by scores of 26-24, 25-21, and 25-13.

Kridel Leads Pioneers in 3-0 Loss
The Sacred Heart Women’s Volleyball Team dropped their first match of the 2012 SHU Hampton Inn Shelton Invitation. The Pioneers lost to Central Florida in three sets. Natalie Kridel (Huntington Beach, Calif.). led SHU hitting .500 with nine kills on 14 attempts. Setter Alisa Mesa (Long Beach, Calif.) had 10 digs in the match, leading the Pioneers, in addition to 25 assists.

Volleyball Wraps West Coast Trip with 3-0 Loss to Fullerton
Last week’s Molten/Northeast Conference Player and Rookie of the Week, Alyssa Young (La Verne, Calif.) and Karly Shockey (Chino Hills, Calif.), combined for over half of the Pioneers’ kills in the final game of the west coast road trip. The Sacred Heart Women’s Volleyball Team fell 3-0 to Cal State Fullerton Sunday night, bringing their season record to 1-6.

The Sacred Heart Women’s Volleyball Team wrapped up the Aztec Challenge 0-3 after losing to Utah State 3-1 and Montana 3-0 today. Elise Sage (Greenwood Village, Colo.) led the Pioneers in day two of the tournament, combining to hit .281 on the day with 13 kills on 32 assists.

The Sacred Heart Women’s Volleyball Team fell 3-1 to Northeastern in the final game of the 2012 Beanpot Classic. With the loss, the Pioneers have a 1-2 record in the tournament, having defeated Holy Cross 3-0 Friday night, and lost to Alabama 3-1 earlier today.
