Mercado and Lee Snag NEC Weekly Honors

FAIRFIELD, CONN. (October 21, 2013)--Dianis Mercado (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) and Jene Lee (San Dimas, Calif.) of the Sacred Heart Women's volleyball team got the nods as this week's Molten/NEC Player of the Week and Molten/NEC Rookie of the Week respectively.

Mercado led the Pioneers to a 3-2 victory over host Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, keeping them in the hunt for an NEC Tournament spot. She blasted a career-high 32 kills in the five-set thriller, averaging 6.2 per set to earn her fourth Player of the Week award of the season. She also notched her eighth double-double, adding 14 digs. From the service line, Mercado controlled the game with three aces.

Returning to the court from an injury on Saturday, Lee hit .500, recording 14 kills on 24 attempts to pick up her first conference award. The newcomer averaged 2.80 kills per set in Sacred  Heart's 3-2 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson. Lee added a team-high five block assists.

The Pioneers are back in action Tuesday, October 22 at 7:00 p.m. at home in the William H. Pitt Center when they host Hofstra on "Digg Pink" night.
