Women's Volleyball Swept by Colonials

MOON TOWNSHIP, PA (September 28, 2014)—The Sacred Heart women's volleyball  team was swept by Robert Morris Sunday afternoon in Sewall Center (25-19, 25-20, 25-22). Sarah Krufka (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) and Katie Direnzo (Shelton, Conn.) led the team with eight kills each. Direnzo hit .500 only making two errors throughout the match. Freshman Makayla Dole (Cypress, Calif.) tallied a career-high 21 digs as SHU's record moves to 5-9 on the season.

Sacred Heart took the opening points of the match and improved their lead to 6-2 thanks to a pair of kills from Lila Palmer (Cypress, Texas) and Karly Shockey (Chino Hills, Calif.), but the Colonials came back behind the strong serving of Becky Jay to tie the score at nine. Kills from Jene Lee (San Dimas, Calif.) and Krufka put the Pioneers back on top, but a late seven-point RMU run gave the Colonials the match 25-19.

The second and third sets were close with each team holding the lead at least twice, but strong serving from RMU's Hannah Hoffman was the prevailing factor that clinched the win for the Colonials.

Next weekend, the Pioneers return home Saturday still looking for their first conference win of the season when they host St. Francis Brooklyn at 5:00 p.m.
