  • Women's Volleyball Falls Short in NEC Championship Against Bryant

    BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Sacred Heart University women's volleyball team fell to Bryant, 3-0, in the 2018 NEC Championship on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, SHU ends its season with a 17-10 (9-5 NEC) record. Liisel Nelis led the Pioneers with a team-high 12 kills, along with 8 digs. Freshman Sarah Ciszek added 30 assists and eight digs, while Emma Smallcomb led SHU with 12 digs.
  • Women's Volleyball Sweeps Top-Seeded LIU Brooklyn to Advance to NEC Finals

    BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Sacred Heart University women's volleyball team advanced to the NEC Tournament Finals for the second time in three years with a sweep over top-seeded LIU Brooklyn in the NEC Tournament Semifinals on Friday afternoon. Freshman Alix Polk had a game-high 14 kills to lead the Pioneers, who hit .226 for the match as a team. Sarah Ciszek paced the Pioneers with 40 assists and added 10 kills for the double-double. The Pioneers return to action Saturday, Nov. 7, at 3 p.m., when they take on the winner of the semifinal match between Bryant and Central Connecticut in the NEC Tournament Finals.

    BROOKLYN, N.Y.. - Sacred Heart women’s volleyball freshman Sarah Ciszek was named the NEC Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Year and Setter of the Year, as announced Thursday night during the annual awards show. Ciszek was also named to the All-NEC First Team, along with redshirt-junior Liisel Nelis.

    FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Sacred Heart University women's volleyball had numerous players earn NEC weekly awards as freshman Sarah Ciszek was named the Molten/NEC Rookie of the Week and red-shirt junior Liisel Nelis was named the Molten/NEC Co-Player of the Week, as announced by the league Monday afternoon. It is the second time this season where the Pioneers had multiple players earn NEC honors in the same week and it is also the second time Nelis was named the Player of the Week this season. It was the fifth time Ciszek earned Rookie of the Week honors and the sixth overall award for her this season.
  • Women's Volleyball Closes Regular-Season with 3-1 Win Over Robert Morris

    MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The Sacred Heart University women's volleyball team won its third match in a row, as the Pioneers downed Robert Morris on the road in four sets to close the regular-season Saturday evening. Liisel Nelis had a game-high 19 kills and added 15 digs for the double-double to lead the Pioneers. Alix Polk narrowly missed a double-double with 10 digs and eight kills to lead the Pioneers (16-9, 9-5 NEC). The Pioneers return to action Friday, Nov. 16, when they take on top-seeded LIU Brooklyn on the road in the semifinals of the NEC Tournament.

    LORETTO, Pa. - The Sacred Heart University women's volleyball team won its second match in a row, as the Pioneers swept Saint Francis University Friday evening. Liisel Nelis had a team-high 15 kills and added nine digs to lead the Pioneers, who hit .246 for the match as a team. Sarah Ciszek and Alix Polk both had double-doubles, with Ciszek recording 35 assists and 17 digs and Polk adding 12 kills and 12 digs to lead the Pioneers (15-9, 8-5 NEC). The Pioneers return to action Saturday, Nov. 10, at 5:00 p.m., when they take on Robert Morris on the road to close the regular-season.

    FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University women’s volleyball team celebrated its Senior Day with a sweep over Central Connecticut State University on Saturday night at the Pitt Center. With the win, the Pioneers clinched a berth in the NEC Tournament for the third time in four years and first time since the 2016 season. Redshirt junior Liisel Nelis had a game-high 13 kills to lead the Pioneers, who hit .387 for the match as a team. Alix Polk added 10 kills, five digs and two service aces to lead the Pioneers (14-9, 7-5 NEC). The Pioneers return to action Friday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m., when they travel to take on St. Francis University.

Sarah Ciszek fell just shy of her second-consecutive triple-double, finishing with 34 assists, 12 digs and eight kills.

Liisel Nelis led Sacred Heart (3-1) with a season-high 19 kills, four service aces, 18 digs and 23.5 points. Julia Murawinski tied her career-high of 16 kills in the win, while Sarah Ciszek finished with seven kills and a career-high 55 assists.
