(Fairfield) – The Sacred Heart Cross Country teams are set to run at the Northeast Conference championships Saturday at Holmdel Park in Holmdel, NJ.
Both the Sacred Heart women and men were picked third in the Preseason Coaches' Poll. Brittany Heninger (Bristol, CT) and Brittany Lane () have led the Pioneers this season. Lane, as a sophomore, has continually improved in her second season as a Pioneer. She has earned two NEC Athlete of the Week honors, most recently for her 7th place finish at the Albany Invitational with a personal best of 17:59. Heninger is a two-time NEC Athlete of the week winner as well, having led the Pioneers with a second overall finish at the Monmouth Invitational (the same site as this weekend's NEC Championships) and a 8th place finish at the Fordham Fiasco in the first two races of the season
The Pioneers hope for top finishes from senior Chris Connelly (Medford, NY), junior Jeffrey Lusignan (East Montpelier, VT), and freshman Aleksandor Morin (Durham, CT). Connelly was named NEC Athlete of the Week two weeks ago for his fifth-place performance at the Albany Invitational. Lusignan is a two-time NEC Athlete of the Week honoree, leading SHU at the New England Championships most recently. Morin finished first for SHU at the Fordham Invitational, and has placed in the top three for the team in nearly all of his races.
The NEC Championship begins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29.
