Pioneer Women's XC Regionally Ranked
FAIRFIELD, CT (October 16, 2012) - The Sacred Heart women's cross country team ran their way into the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Regional Rankings this week entering the Northeast Regional Poll at 14th. The Pioneers are coming off a fifth place finish at the Princeton Invitational this past weekend.
The SHU women have been regionally ranked once before in 2008. The Pioneers earned a 15th place ranking in the weekly poll after a strong second place performance at the 2008 Northeast Conference Championship.
Sacred Heart is headed toward this season's NEC Championship race on October 27th with a strong and deep line-up. The Pioneers had three runners earn All-New England honors on the way to a program best fourth place finish at the100th running of the New England Championship two weekends. SHU finished fourth thanks to top-30 finishes by junior Brianna Castrogivanni (Commack, NY) and seniors Alyssa Selmquist (Northford, CT) and Michelle Navarro (Piscataway, NJ), earning the trio All-New England recognition. Selmquist has earned a pair of NEC Athlete of the Week honors this season.
The Pioneers will run at the CCSU Mini-Meet on October 19th at Stanley Quarter Park in their final tune-up for the NEC race.
