Elizabeth Lavin began working as SHU’s Athletics Counselor in October of 2023. She works for the University’s counseling center but has a focus on Pio student-athletes.
 
Lavin provides individual counseling sessions while working towards creating mental health initiative programs. She works closely with student-athletes to help manage different stressors they experience, including performance anxiety, mental toughness and coping with physical injuries. She also helps them with everyday skills that enhance their experiences, like communication, time management, teamwork and self-esteem.
 
Lavin came to SHU from Long Island University, where she served as the Associate Director of the Center for Healthy Living. She oversaw counseling and medical services for the campus, provided individual counseling sessions and supervision to mental health counseling graduate student interns, and created mental health programs for students. She focused mainly on student-athletes tackling mental health challenges.
 
She graduated from Mount Saint Mary College in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology before adding a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Pace University in 2018.
 
Lavin, who was on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as a volleyball player at Mount Saint Mary College, is a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) for New York and a licensed professional counselor (LPC) for Connecticut.
