Moon Township, PA - Robert Morris used a pair of big first periods to notch two wins over Sacred Heart in women's ice hockey action Wednesday night and Thursday afternoon at Island Sports Center. The Colonials took the opener by a 4-3 mark and won Thursday's finale by a score of 5-1.

Thursday afternoon the Colinals scored three goals in a 1:40 span midway through the first period to take control of the game. Senior Michelle Panella (Marlboro, NJ) scored the Pioneers only goal at the 7:07 mark of the second period but Alissa Dorman scored her second goal of the game late in the stanza to reopen the three goal Colonial lead.

Freshman Kristen Olychuck (Kelowna, BC) was the star of the game for Sacred Heart for the second straight day, After a solid outing in goal Wednesday night, featuring two scoreless periods and 33 saves, Olychuck made 27 saves, in Thursday's losing effort.

In Wednesday night's game, the Colonials scored three goals in the first 10 minutes of the first period, including a power play goal at the 9:25 mark. After the extra-man goal, Sacred Heart shut-down senior goaltender Stephanie Boulay (Anchorage, AK) for the night, replacing her with Olychuck.

Sacred Heart answered the Colonials three consecutive scores with a power-play goal of their own. Sophomore Gina Arnone (Bridgewater, NJ) sent a rocket top-shelf on sophomore Brianne McLaughlin settling the score at 3-1.

With time running down in the first period, Robert Morris lit the lamp one more time, moving the score to 4-1 thanks to sophomore Ali Proodian and her first goal of the year.

Sacred Heart held the Colonials scoreless through the remaining 40 minutes of hockey. The Pioneers chipped away at the lead, adding a goal in the second by Sarah Hickman (Amherst, MA) and one late in the third on a shot by Katelin McLaughlin (Hingham, MA) with 3:13 left to play.

With under a minute to play in regulation, the Pioneers pulled their keeper for the extra attack, but it proved to be not enough as the score held up for the Robert Morris win.

The Pioneers are back in action Tuesday night when they travel to Neumann for a two game series. The teams will meet Tuesday night at 7:00 pm and Wednesday at 5:00 pm.
