Bridgeport, CT -
Freshman Kristina Hankins (Lexington, MA) scored two goals and freshman Taryn Lapierre (Burillville, RI) added a goal and an assist as Sacred Heart scored four unanswered goals enroute to a 5-3 win over Robert Morris College in women's ice hockey action Friday night at the Wonderland of Ice.
The Eagles got on the board early, scoring 2:18 into the game. Jennifer Dalheimer took a pass from Sarah Noawksi and blasted a shot from the blueline that trickled through the pads of Pioneer goaltender Sarah Perry (Sudbury, MA). Hankins tied the game with 5:13 left in the first period, assisted by senior Katelin McLaughlin (Hingham, MA).
Danielle McCutcheon scored two goals less then three minutes apart late in the first period to help RMC open up a two goal lead. The first goal came on the power play with 3:44 left in the first. The second goal came with 1:07 left and was an unassisted tally that gave the Eagles a 3-1 lead after the first period.
The Pioneers offense finally woke up midway through the second period, sparked by a shorthanded goal by junior Jaclyn Rideout (Wilmington, MA) at the 8:58 mark. Just over one minute later, at the 10:11 mark, Hankins scored her second goal off a feed from McLaughlin to tie the game. Just 1:26 after that, 11:35 into the second, Lapierre scored what turned out to be the game winning goal, converting on a pass from freshman Lauren Fontaine (Windsor, ON).
Sophomore Kate Dunlop (Flesherton, ON) finished off an impressive individual play, sliding a backhand around Eagles goaltender Ashley Miller 2:40 into the third period, to finish the scoring.
Sacred Heart outshot RMC 35-19 in the game. Perry made 16 saves to earn the victory while Miller stopped 30 shots in a losing effort.
