Norman Leads Game with 22 Points as Pioneers Fall to Hartford 70-64

FAIRFIELD, CONN. (December 21, 2013)—Ericka Norman (Chino Hills, Calif.) posted a career-high leading the game with 22 points as the Sacred Heart women's basketball team dropped Saturday afternoon's contest to Hartford 70-64 in the William H. Pitt Center. The senior point guard shot 53.5% (8-for-15) from the field and collected six steals. The Pioneers fall to 2-8 with the loss, and the Hawks improve to 3-9.

The Pioneers trailed from the opening bucket as Hartford started the game on a 15-2 run. Sacred Heart spent the period playing catch-up, cutting down the Hawks' lead to just four points, 22-18, with eight minutes left. The score remained close until the buzzer with Hartford heading into the break up 32-27.

Sacred Heart battled its way back in the beginning of the second half, finally tying the score at 40 on a pair of foul shots from Adaysha Williams (LaCrosse, Wis.). Moments later, the rookie added two more from the line giving the Pioneers their first lead of the game with 13:22 left in the game.

The lead was short-lived, however, as the Hawks came back with a five-point run to reclaim the lead. Sacred Heart managed to come within one of catching Hartford on a Gabrielle Washington (Mesa, Ariz.) layup, but could not overcome the Hawks' offense.

After a short Christmas break, Sacred Heart returns to the Pitt Center to host the University of Maine on December 29 at 2:00 p.m.
