Box Score GENEVA, N.Y. – Senior midfielder Alex Dodge recorded his 100th career point Saturday, as the Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team wrapped up the 2016 season with a 15-10 loss at Hobart Saturday.
Dodge led the Pioneers with four goals and added an assist for five points. He finished his SHU career with 102 points on 65 goals and 37 assists. Bryce Jurk had a career-high five points on three goals and two assists. Greg Price tied a career-high with 16 saves and added three groundballs.
Hobart (8-6, 4-2 NEC) opened the game on a 3-0 run in the first 2:31, getting goals from J Andrew Spallanzani, Sean Donnelly, and Cooper Stefaniak. Sacred Heart (2-14, 0-6 NEC) got on the board at the 11:16 mark as Dodge assisted on Jurk's first goal. The two teams traded goals throughout the opening quarter with Dodge and Matt Posch making the score 6-3 at the end of the first quarter. The Pioneers closed to within one, 6-5, with 6:24 to play in the second quarter on two Dodge tallies. The Statesmen responded with goals by Frank Brown and Chris Aslanian to take an 8-5 halftime lead.
After each team scored once in the third quarter, Hobart pulled away to start the fourth. The Statesmen scored four straight goals to take a 13-6 lead with 7:53 remaining. The Pioneers had one last run in them, scoring four unanswered goals of their own to cut the deficit to three with 2:13 to play. Dodge, Jurk, Joe Saggese, and Reed Avveduti all scored during that stretch for SHU but that would be as close as the Pioneers would get. Hobart scored twice in the final 90 seconds to win the game 15-10.
Hobart outshot Sacred Heart 48-40 and held a 32-19 advantage in groundballs. Max Romm led Hobart with three goals as Stefaniak and Donnelly each had two goals and two assists.
