Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Sacred Heart men's lacrosse traveled to Ivy League power Brown on Tuesday afternoon and dropped a 20-7 decision to the Bears from Stevenson-Pincince Field. The Pioneers fall to 1-2 on the season while Brown moves to 2-0.
Drew Edwards and Ryan Stout finished with two goals apiece to lead the SHU offense while Matt Block registered three ground balls and two caused turnovers on defense.
1st Quarter (6-2 BROWN)
- SHU got off to a great start, scoring two straight after the Bears scored the game's opening goal as the Pioneers held a 2-1 lead midway through the opening quarter
- Ryan Lindsey was first on the board from SHU as he took a pass from Carson Spooner and scored his fourth of the season before Drew Edwards notched an unassisted strike to give the Pioneers the lead
- From the Edwards goal, however, Brown took complete control as the Bears scored five unanswered to close out the quarter while Brown's goalkeeper Phil Goss made five saves in the cage to keep SHU at-bay
- Despite trailing by four, SHU was only outshot 14-8 as Goss' five saves on seven shots on-target was the difference in the early going
2nd Quarter (11-4 BROWN)
- Brown continued to pour it on into the second quarter, scoring the first two goals of the period before Edwards was able to break up a scoreless streak that lasted 15+ minutes for the Pioneers
- Jaden Walcot later put home his second man-up goal of the season to make it 10-4 but Luke McCaleb struck on the EMO with just three seconds left to send the Bears into halftime with a seven-goal lead
3rd Quarter (12-5 BROWN)
- Jack Walsh scored on the man-up just 1:55 into the second half as the Pioneers attempted a comeback bid
- Colton King came in for Brooks Dutton to start the third quarter and made three consecutive saves in the period as the deficit remained at six throughout a majority of the quarter
- Unfortunately for SHU, the offensive production was tough to come by as six turnovers and just eight shots limited the chances for a comeback
- Despite allowing just one goal in the quarter, SHU still trailed by seven after three
4th Quarter (20-7 BROWN)
- Brown came out firing on all cylinders in the fourth as the Bears scored eight unanswered in a span of just 8:12 to build a 20-5 lead
- Stout came up with his first two career goals in the closing minutes to complete the scoring for the Pioneers
