Box Score NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team rode a fast start to victory in its Northeast Conference contest on Saturday at Central Connecticut State. The Pioneers outscored the Blue Devils 20-12 in the first quarter and never looked back as they cruised to a 70-56 victory.

Sacred Heart set the tone early as they held the Blue Devils scoreless for three minutes to build 12-2 margin hallway through the first quarter. Carly Stroemel gave the Pioneers a 32-22 lead with three minutes left in the half and SHU took a 35-22 lead into the locker room.
Central Connecticut State outscored the Pioneers 6-2 to start the third quarter and cut the SHU lead to 34-31. The Blue Devils got back in the game as two Angelique Rodriquez free throws sliced the lead to four going into the fourth quarter, but that's as close as the hosts would get the rest of the night.
SHU started the final frame on an 8-1 run and the lead grew to 11 on a Sonia Smith layup. The Pioneers outscored the Blue Devils 20-10 in the final frame.
Senior guard Adrianne Hagood was top scorer for the second game in a row with 17 points. Producing back-to-back double-doubles was rookie Kelsey Wood with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Jayla Davis was the third Pioneer in double figures with 10 markers.
Sacred Heart dominated the boards for the second game in a row as five players had five or more rebound as part of SHU's 51-36 advantage. Nikki Johnson just missed her second double-double with eight boards and Asia McCray hauled in six.
