Box Score NEW BRITAIN, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team pulled out a close contest to snap a two-game losing streak. The Pioneers came through with a 63-56 victory over Central Connecticut State on Monday.

After CCSU tied the game at 15-15 in the second quarter, Sacred Heart pulled away on an 8-0 run for a 23-15 lead. The Blue Devils responded with a 7-4 run to cut the score to 27-22 going into halftime.
Sonia Smith scored a layup at the 5:38 mark of the fourth quarter that sparked a 6-0 Pioneer run to push the lead up to 55-46.
CCSU drained a three-pointer to make it a three-point game with 30 seconds remaining. The Pioneers iced the game with free throws from Smith,
Adrianne Hagood and
Olivia Martino.
Sacred Heart used the free throw line to its advantage, going 20-of-25 (80.0%) from the charity stripe, compared to 14-of-20 (70.0%) by the hosts.
Three Pioneers scored in double-figures. Smith led with 18 points and matched her career-high with eight free throws while notching four assists and three steals. Hagood was second with 12.
Kelsey Wood amassed her first double-double of the season, fourth of her career, with a season-high 10 points and 11 rebounds. The sophomore had back-to-back double-doubles in the two games with the Blue Devils last season.
