ORCHARD BEACH LAGOON, N.Y.
– The Sacred Heart Women's Rowing Team had four boats compete at today's Fall Metropolitan Championships.

The Pioneers were third in the first varsity eight (7:27.7), first in the second varsity eight (7:35.57), fifth in the varsity four (9:36.94) and second in the novice eight (8:09.5).

"I'm extraordinarily proud of our Pioneer crew today. We had great competition from teams in and out of conference today," said SHU Head Coach Lucas Wilhelm. "All three eights walked away with a place on the podium, which is proof of how hard these young women are working. The highlight has to be the Second Varsity (2V) winning their event. they had a strong showing in Philly two weeks ago and an even stronger showing today.  The 1v is closing the gap on the leaders of our conference with a strong race in hard conditions.
The crew who raced the hardest may have been Novice 8 who took a close second behind our cross-town rivals Fairfield."

Assistant Coach Dawson Shyne-Appignani added, "For our Varsity Four, today was an opportunity to see where we stand against conference rivals and set ourselves up with motivation for a winter of training hard for MAACs in the spring. With our goals clear in sight after today, we are excited to see where the winter will take us following such a promising fall as a team."
