FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team battled with Monmouth for most of Sunday's contest but the Hawks came out on top in the end 77-62.

Sajada Bonner three-pointer at the beginning of the third quarter prompted a 13-7 run and the Pioneers took a 41-37 edge over the Hawks with 6:48 left. Sacred Heart could not hold onto the lead for long as Monmouth went on a 6-0 run with under two minutes left and ultimately pulled away after outscoring the Pioneers, 25-12 in the fourth quarter.
A free throw from Bonner sparked an 8-0 Sacred Heart run to cut the score to 25-24 with 2:48 left in the second quarter. Monmouth responded with five unanswered points to take back the lead and went into the half up 30-28.

Monmouth's accuracy from behind the three-point line and at the charity stripe was the difference. The visitors shot 50 percent (8-16) from behind the arc and 86.7 percent (13-15) at the line while the Pioneers were 6-20 (30 percent) and 12-21 (57.1) respectively.
