Sacred Heart Welcomes Hartford for Season Opener

FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team tips off the 2022-23 campaign on Monday as it welcomes Hartford to the Pitt Center on Monday. Game begins at 7 p.m. on NEC Front Row with Randy Brochu and Joe DeSantis on the call.
 
OPENING TIP
  • Sacred Heart begins the 2022-23 era with its first out of its 16 home contests. The most at the Pitt Center since the 2018-19 season. The Pioneers played at Hartford in its season opener last year and took a 71-62 victory.
  • Head coach Jessica Mannetti enters her 10th season as head coach. She holds a 127-133 (.488) overall record and 95-67 (.586) in Northeast Conference play.
  • The Pioneers return seven of their players from last season and welcome seven newcomers to the squad.
  • Olivia Tucker is among the returnees. The senior guard led Sacred Heart in triples and was ranked fourth in the NEC in thE category.
  • The Pioneers will have their returning rebounders in Kelsey Wood (5.5 per game) and Carly Stroemel (4.5 per game). Both were ranked in the top three last season in the number of boards.
  • Sacred Heart was picked to finish sixth in the NEC Preseason Poll.
