Sacred Heart Welcomes Providence for Kids Day

Pioneers face second Big East team of the season

FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team looks to go into the Christmas break on a high note as it hosts Providence for Kids Day on Tuesday. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m. on NEC Front Row with Randy Brochu and Joe DeSantis on the call.
 
OPENING TIP
  • Sacred Heart plays its second Big East team of the season in Providence. The Pioneers are 3-2 in the overall series against the Friars and hold a two-game winning streak at the Pitt Center.
  • This is the second time this season Sacred Heart is playing a Big East team having played Butler at the FAU Thanksgiving Tournament in November.
  • The Pioneers are second in the Northeast Conference in offensive rebounds with 11.7 per game and combined rebounds at 35.8.
  • Ny'Ceara Pryor is a four-time NEC Rookie of the Week honoree.The first year recently garnered her first conference Co-Player of the Week nod (Dec. 12) and was selected to the MBWA Honorable Mention (Dec. 13). Pryor leads Sacred Heart with 16.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 4.2 steals per game in her inaugural college season. The Baltimore Md. native is the leader in the NEC with 42 steals and 4.2 steals per game. In national ranks, Pryor currently leads in steals per game and is second in steals.
  • Carly Stroemel leads the NEC in blocks (16) and blocks per game (1.6). The senior is nationally ranked 56th in blocks and 58th in blocks per game.
