STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Sophomore
Joseph Morrone set the 300m school record at the Youree Spence Garcia Invitational on Saturday afternoon to lead Sacred Heart men's indoor track and field in its first meet of the season.
Morrone won the 300m as he finished at 34.12, setting the SHU record, which he previously held.
The Pioneers had two other first-place finishers as sophomore
Owen Nassaney won the high jump at 2.00m and senior
Cameron Croce won the shot put at 15.12m. Croce was also second overall in the weight throw with a 15.50m throw.
The 4x800 relay and 4x400 relay both finished in second place. The 4x800 relay of
Jordan Leon, Ryan Scappaticci, Matthew Vene, and Giovanni Prestipino finished at 8:39.95 and the 4x400 relay of
Jonathan Mahon,
Dominic Miele,
Jack Sarkisian,
Joseph Morrone finished at 3:27.31.
Sophomore
Jordan Leon was fourth overall in the 1000m at 2:27.77.
First-year Ryan Scappaticci made his indoor track and field debut in the 3000m with a sixth-place finish at 9:30.83.
Sophomore
Dominic Miele was ninth overall in the 500m, crossing the line at 1:07.42. Senior
Corry Brinken was 10th in the 200m at 23.14.
In the shot put, sophomore
Aidan Glennon was fifth overall at 13.67m, and classmate
Liam Tharin was sixth at 12.96m.
The Pioneers are back in action next weekend at the 27th URI Men's Heptathlon and the Yale University Season Opener.
