Sacred Heart Travels to Wagner on Thursday

FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team continues its road stint at Wagner on Thursday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on NEC Front Row with Keith Raad and Matias Weilmann on the call.

OPENING TIP

  • The Pioneers are 33-11 against Wagner overall and 13-7 on the road. Sacred Heart notched the last five victories at Spiro Sports Center.
  • Wagner won the last contest, 52-38, at the Pitt Center on January 8. Sacred Heart was held to just 28.8% in shooting in the contest. Nikki Johnson led the Pioneers with 10 points.
  • Sacred Heart leads the NEC and is 47th nationally in the fewest turnovers with 305, with the lowest amount committed a season-low (11) in the first game of the season at Hartford on November 10.
  • The Pioneers are second in the conference and 42nd nationally on defense in three-point field goal percentage at 27.6%.
  • Sonia Smith is ninth in scoring in the NEC, averaging 12.4 points per game. She is also third in steals (1.8) and fourth in assists (4.5) per game. Olivia Tucker ranks third in the league in three-point field goals made with 2.3 per game. Carly Stroemel is averaging 1.0 blocks per game, which is fifth-best in the conference.
  • Sacred Heart will look to snap a seven-game losing streak. The Pioneers have not lost this many games in a row since 1989-90. Despite the streak, Sacred Heart was able to clinch a spot in the playoffs that year.
