STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team snapped its seven-game losing streak with an upset at Wagner, 60-50, on Thursday.

Sacred Heart made a push in the second quarter as it outscored Wagner, 21-6.
Carly Stroemel scored a layup that prompted a 12-2 run at the 2:49 mark, giving the Pioneers a 30-25 lead going into halftime.
Going into the fourth quarter with a seven-point lead, Sona Smith scored eight unanswered points with 8:19 left, that would help Sacred Heart pull away and ice the victory.
The Pioneers shot 46.8% (22-47) from the field and held the Seahawks to just 27.9% (19-68). Sacred Heart won the game from the free-throw line as it shot 83.3% (10-12) compared to Wagner's 50.0% (8-16).
Smith matched her season-high of 22 points for the third time while dishing out a game-leading five assists.
Carly Stroemel scored 15 points and notched three assists and one block.
Nikki Johnson scored 10 points and grabbed a season-high nine rebounds.
