Sacred Heart Welcomes Merrimack to Pitt Center

FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University women's basketball welcomes Merrimack to the Pitt Center for its Equality and Inclusion Game on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. on NEC Front Row with Randy Brochu and Freddie Coleman on the call. 

OPENING TIP

  • Sacred Heart returns to the Pitt Center after a three-game road stint. The Pioneers snapped their seven-game losing streak with a 60-50 victory at Wagner.
  • Sacred Heart will look to get its first win against Merrimack since January 2, 2020.
  • Last time both teams met was March 4-5, 2021 at the Pitt Center. The Warriors swept both contests 70-61 and 64-57. Nikki Johnson posted 12 and 10-point performances in both games. Marie-Laeticia Ziba scored 10 points in game one while Adrianne Hagood notched 11 in game two.
  • Sacred Heart leads the NEC and is 64th nationally in the fewest turnovers with 326, with the lowest amount committed at a season-low (11) in the first game of the season at Hartford on November 10.
  • The Pioneers are second in the conference and 35th nationally on defense in three-point field goal percentage at 27.3%.
  • Sonia Smith is sixth in scoring in the NEC, averaging 12.9 points per game. She is also fourth in steals (1.7) and assists (4.5) per game. Olivia Tucker ranks third in the league in three-point field goals made with 2.3 per game. Carly Stroemel is averaging 1.0 blocks per game, which is tied for fifth in the conference.
