Sacred Heart Begins Road Trip at Merrimack

FAIRFIELD, Conn.— Sacred Heart University women's basketball team is on the road the next two games, beginning with a matchup at Merrimack on Wednesday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on NEC Front Row. 

OPENING TIP

  • Sacred Heart is currently on a five-game losing streak. The Pioneers ended the 2020-21 season on that same streak, costing them a spot in the Northeast Conference Tournament.
  • Sacred Heart trails Merrimack 3-4 in the series, with the first meeting dating back to 1987 at the New Hampshire College Tournament.
  • Last season, the Pioneers lost both contests to the Warriors at the Pitt Center, 70-61 and 64-57. Nikki Johnson posted 12 points and 10 points, respectively. Marie-Laeticia Ziba had 10 points in game one while Adrianne Hagood notched 11 in game two.
  • Sacred Heart leads the NEC and is 40th nationally in the fewest turnovers with 271, with the lowest amount committed in its first game of the season at Hartford on November 10.
  • The Pioneers are second in the conference and 20th nationally on defense in three-point field goals.
  • Smith is ninth in scoring in the NEC, averaging 12.3 points per game. She also ranks fourth in steals (1.5) and fifth in assists (4.4). Olivia Tucker ranks third in the league in three-point field goals made with 2.3 per game. Carly Stroemel is sixth in blocked shots with 0.9 per game.
