Pioneers Roll Past UMass Lowell, 14-10

SHU dominates second half, outscoring the Riverhawks, 5-2

LOWELL, Mass. – Junior Nicky LaBanca and sophomore Sal Miccio dominated on both ends of the field as the Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team picked up its second win of the season at UMass Lowell, 14-10, on Saturday. LaBanca stopped a career-high 21 saves in between the pipes while Miccio netted a career-high five goals.

Sacred Heart returns from its two-game road stint on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Pioneers will open Northeast Conference play against Hobart for their Military Appreciation Game. 
 
Of Note:
The Pioneers held a one-goal advantage at the half before back-to-back goals from Miccio sparked a 4-0 run in the third quarter. The Pioneers held the Riverhawks just one goal in the third frame as they outscored them, 5-1. 
 
The fourth quarter saw just one goal from UMass Lowell as SHU put on a strong defensive front. 
 
LaBanca ties for sixth all-time in SHU's history for his 21-save performance. Allowing just 10 goals, LaBanca posted a .677 save percentage. It's the first time in his career that he tallied 21 saves. 
 
First-year Jake Ward also posted a career-best in goals with three. 
 
Morgan O'Reilly posted his third-straight multi-goal performance with two. O'Reilly leads the Pioneers with 15 on the year. 
 
Miccio's all-around offensive performance was a career-best with five goals off nine shots, seven of which were on target.
