Sacred Heart Travels to Wagner on Thursday

FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team begins its two-road game slate on Thursday as it travels to Staten Island to face Wagner. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on NEC Front Row with Keith Raad and Sam Kuperman on the call.
 
OPENING TIP
  • Sacred Heart meets Wagner for the 44th time. The Pioneers hold a 33-11 advantage in the series against the Seahawks. Both teams split in victories the last two seasons.
  • SHU came out with a 66-61 victory over Stonehill on Saturday to improve to 7-1. Ny'Ceara Pryor scored the last nine of the Pioneers' points to help ice the victory.
  • Sacred Heart is currently tied for first with FDU. The Pioneers have not ranked this high in the standings since the 2015-16 season.
  • SHU is second in the NEC in offensive rebounds with 12.0 per game and third in combined rebounds with 35.9 per game.
  • Pryor became the first player in program and NEC history to be selected to the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Watchlist. The first year is a nine-time NEC Rookie of the Week, two-time NEC Player of the Week and three-time Met Basketball Writer's Association Honorable Mention honoree. Pryor is the leader in the league and nation in steals per game (4.1) and steals (81). In addition, Pryor is the leader in the conference in scoring (17.6). She has scored 20+ points in eight games.
  • Carly Stroemel leads the NEC in blocks per game (1.4) and blocks (26). The senior is nationally ranked 79th in blocks per game.
  • Sierra Johnson has scored in double-figures in four games, including a season-high 16 points at Saint Francis (1/16).
