BROOKLYN, N.Y.-- The Sacred Heart University women's rugby team won the Long Island University 7's tournament with a 3-1 record on Sunday. Sophomore Alyssa Cunningham was named the tournament MVP.Â
Game one - SHU 43, New Haven 0Â
Sacred Heart opened the tournament with a 43-0 victory over New Haven. Fabiola Millien-Faustin led the way with three tries. Cunningham added a try, along with two conversions. Chaney Fisher, Caitlyn Caldon, and Ashley Torres-Brown all recorded a try in the shutout victory.Â
Game two - SHU 28, LIU 12
The Pioneers won its second consecutive game of the tournament, taking down LIU 28-12. Cunningham led SHU with three tries and had a conversion, and Nicole Kimball added a try for Sacred Heart.Â
Game three - AIC 28, SHU 12
After winning the first two games, the Pioneers fell in the third to AIC, 28-12. Torres-Brown and Cunningham each recorded a try. Cunningham also had a conversion against AIC. Â
Game four - SHU 24, AIC 0Â
In the final game of the tournament, the Pioneers and Yellow Jackets had a rematch. Sacred Heart came out on top 24-0 in the final to win the LIU 7's tournament.Â
Millien-Faustin had two ties to lead Sacred Heart. Kimball and Samantha McGann each tallied a try for SHU's win. Cunningham and Kimball both had conversions as the Pioneers were able to claim the LIU 7's tournament trophy.Â
